Our Programs & Rooms 🧸
At Sunny Bear, children spend their days in three classrooms matched to their age: Infant, Toddler, and Preschool. Each room has teachers who know the children well, plenty of play, and a calm rhythm to the day. We speak Spanish and English with the children every day, and we follow the ELM Curriculum.
3 - 15 months
Cubs
Our Infant Room is calm and close-knit — a place where babies feel safe, secure, and loved.
We focus on strong attachments through responsive care, gentle interactions, and steady routines. Through play, song, movement, and exploration, babies grow in body, feelings, and early communication.
In this room, your child will enjoy:
Soft play and sensory activities
Tummy time and early movement
Storytime, songs, and simple games
Close care from teachers who know their cues
We work with you on your baby’s home routine — sleep, feeding, and comfort — and gently introduce our daily rhythm as they grow.
15 months - 3 years
Paws
In our Toddler Room, children are becoming more independent, curious, and adventurous.
This space encourages exploration, language, and friendship. Children build confidence and everyday skills through both free play and guided activities.
Activities include:
Creative play (painting, messy play, crafts)
Role play and imaginative games
Outdoor play and physical movement
Early language and communication
Basic self-care, like hand washing and dressing
Teachers gently guide children as they learn to share, take turns, and express their feelings.
3 - 5 years
Young Bears
Our Preschool Room gets children ready for elementary school in a warm, playful way.
Learning is fun and matched to each child’s interests. We focus on confidence, independence, and school readiness — not drills.
Children take part in:
Early literacy and numeracy through play
Problem-solving and creative thinking
Group games and teamwork
Art, music, and storytelling
Outdoor play and physical development
We want children to take pride in what they can do, share their ideas, and enjoy learning.
Outdoor learning
We don’t have a yard of our own, so the children walk to nearby parks and playgrounds. Outside they run, climb, explore, and play together. Fresh air and movement are part of every day — our little Bears roam Jamaica Plain’s neighborhood greens, including Johnson Park, Lawndale, Stonybrook, Flaherty, Train Park, Hall-Boynton, and Southwest Corridor Park.
